How to make first contact with a client when you’re new
You are new in your job and have to write to a customer with a request. Before making your request, introduce yourself briefly. This is how you do it.
- state your name
- say who you have taken over from
- express the hope that everything will go well
- say you’re looking forward to working with the client
- make your request
Example
Dear Mr Barnes
First of all, please let me introduce myself. I am Rebecca Stock, a new member of the Arts Department. I have taken over from Sigrid Wagner. At the moment it’s a bit overwhelming, but I will hopefully settle in quickly and things will run as smoothly as they did before. I am really looking forward to working with you and hope that I don’t have to bother you with too many questions.
I am enclosing an application form for funding your exhibition “Extra-Sense”. Would you please fill in the details and return the form to me by the middle of next month? We can then go ahead with organising the details.
Kind regards
