How you can make your emails more personal.
Einst verpönt, haben Smileys und ähnliche kleine „Gesichtsausdrücke“ längst ihren Platz in Business-E-Mails gefunden – aber nur, wenn Sie den Adressaten sehr gut kennen!
Emoticons started out as smileys :–), but they now cover a whole range of facial expressions. The word is a cross between ‘emotion’ and ‘icon’. Because emails are often written without much thought and because they are, by nature, immediate methods of communication, it is sometimes easy to sound impolite.
Using an emoticon can help you indicate your feelings:
:-) happy (a ‘smiley’)
:-( unhappy
:-D laughing
:-|| angry
;-) winking; just kidding
:-o surprised
Use them at your own discretion, depending on how modern or conservative
the recipient is.
If you know a business partner well and are on friendly terms, you can use abbreviations like the ones below. But don’t use these terms with ‘serious’ or conservative business partners.
